THE GAME:
Ricochet is, in case you hadn't noticed, just a bit like table tennis, or
ping pong to our Eastern cousins! The only real difference is the fact that
you have a wall either side of the table to bounce your balls, so to speak!
A bit like squash. This makes a far more playable game on a computer and is
a lot easier to program!
Options:
(As the mouse port can be used as the second joystick, you select using the
1st joystick, moving it up/down & pressing fire to confirm option).
Select either:
Practice (See section on practice later on)
Single game
best of three
best of five
And,
One or Two players
(PLEASE NOTE, This version of ricochet does not support keyboard or
mouse controls, second joy stick only).
Enter name(s):
(Up to 16 characters, Back space delete is your only edit control)
If one player is selected the computer will be your opponent and you
will be given the opportunity to select an adversary of your choice.
PLAYING THE GAME
Serving:
The person serving, when he/she is ready simply presses FIRE.
Initially the computer randomly selects who serves first (Honest!). The
serve is then held by that person for five services and then swaps to the
other person.
In the remaining games of a match it's mugs away!
(who ever lost last serves first).
TIP; You can try holding the joystick at different angles in order to
change the type of serve you deliver.
Returning the ball:
Obvious really, but again, different shots are created through joystick
positions
Winning:
The first person who reaches 21 points wins the game
Tie Break:
If both persons reach 20 point each the game goes into a deuce/advantage
scenario, in other words, who ever wins must do so by gaining a two point
lead.
PRACTICE
Select either:
Easy
Match Play
This option not only helps to improve your game skills, it's also a game in
its self.
"Practice" is a single player option and is played using a spring loaded
wall instead of an opponent. The computer keeps an account of the length of
your rallies and saves the best to disc, presenting it with your name
(Assuming you wrote it in at the beginning!) on a high score table.
IMPORTANT KEY COMMANDS:-
Esc - Escapes from practice back to the options window,
If your score is worthy, it will be added to the Hi Score
table and displayed.
Ctrl-D Pressing these two keys at once gives you the option to ERASE
all the scores saved previously to disc (in current option only)
This operation is permanent!
